New Joint – Cappadonna

Cappadonna – “Somebody’s Got To Go” ( Koch / 2008 )

Taken from the Wu affiliate’s forthcoming album “Slang Prostitution”.

New Joint – Big Noyd

Big Noyd – “Things Done Changed” (Koch / 2007)

Beauty & The Beast – Angie Martinez / Styles P

At the risk of this blog becoming known as the online outlet for the Styles P Appreciation Society, here’s the second interview with The Ghost this week, this time from Angie Martinez’s Hot 97 show.

I think Styles has been taking interview tips from Ghostface in the amusing and memorable quote department – there are a few gems here.

Get Ya Weight Up – Styles P

A little last minute pre-fight hype from Styles P courtesy of the Come Up DVD crew before his new album drops tomorrow (plus some thugged-out dietary tips).

Regardless of your opinion of The Ghost as an artist, you have to give him props for actually talking realistically about his last project, “Time Is Money”.

In a rap world where every emcee swears blind they always have the “hottest sh*t”, it’s refreshing to actually hear someone like Styles keeping their feet on the ground and facing up to the fact that maybe their last joint wasn’t exactly essential listening.

Let’s hope the new album finds the Lox lyricist taking it back to the flavour of 2002’s “A Gangster And A Gentleman”, with the Jagged Edge / Akon type collabos heard on “Time Is Money” left on the studio floor.

New Joint – Styles P / Ghostface

Styles P ft. Ghostface Killah – “Star Of The State” (Koch / 2007)

More verbal violence from Styles’ forthcoming album, this time with Shaolin’s Iron Man riding shotgun on microphone duties.

To my ears, this track is in a similar vein to Jay-Z and Biggie’s “Brooklyn’s Finest” or Method Man and Raekwon’s “Meth Vs. Chef”, with two lyrical heavyweights bringing the best out of each other in the good ol’fashioned spirit of healthy competition.

Ghostface sounds like he’s about to pop out the speaker and punch you in the nose on this joint. Obviously the Wally Champ’s disappointment over the new Wu album has left him with a lot of frustration to work through!!!

New Joint – Styles P

Styles P ft. Black Thought – “Cause I’m Black” (Koch / 2007)

Lox loose cannon Styles mixes street swagger with some social insight on this head-nodding cut from his forthcoming third solo album, “Super Gangster (Extraordinary Gentleman)”. Dude always comes with the lyrics, but after the mediocre production heard on much of his last effort “Time Is Money” he needs to exercise some serious quality control on the beats if this latest long-player is going to make any serious impact. Leave the lightweight radio cuts to Fabolous, P!
