Dead Broke! – J-Zone

December 2, 2008 · 3 Comments

dead_broke

Zone-Loc is back with a new mixshow to put us all in the seasonal mood – download here and check out what the man himself had to say about the latest instalment below:

Gator$-n-Fur$ is back! But for how long?

J-Zone & Chief Chinchilla took 2 months off from the Gator$-n-Fur$ Mixshow to promote their “Live @ The Liqua Sto” album and while the record was fun and fresh, their current situation isn’t. Like anything else, money (or lack thereof) has created a rift between these two knucleheads. The economy is screwing just about everybody at the moment and Zone and Chief are just 2 of millions of…screwcipients. In December 2008 they’re Dead Broke! But will their financial woes and ensuing beef permanently destroy 21 years of friendship and 18 months of musical partnership? Is this the end of Gator$-n-Fur$? Highly possible. Can they reach an understanding? Let’s hope so.

If they don’t reconcile and this is the last show, they both want it to be known they greatly appreciate your support over the last 18 months. If they do reconcile, hopefully we’ll see them back in the studio together soon. Survive the hard times or suffer with them with the Dead Broke! mixshow.

Zooted! – J-Zone

August 2, 2008 · Leave a Comment

After a brief hiatus J-Zone returns with a new mixshow for your blunted listening pleasure – download it here and check out the message from Zone Loc below.

“Welcome back to the land of Gator$-n-Fur$! I took July off to tackle other obstacles life chose to throw at me, take a needed vacation, fix my mailing list (I hate gmail) and let you catch up on past Gator$-n-Fur$ shows you missed. But my co-host Chief Chinchilla just couldn’t stay out of trouble. I never did smoke much weed beause a) I was too cheap and b) you never can tell what else is in it these days. Chief didn’t get that memo and he’s actin’ a damn fool (more so than usual) as he’s become a temporary drug addict due to some ruthless player haters that want to see his onion ring pimping come to a terrible halt. If you do drugs, then do em to this mix. If you’re a boring straight edge like me, enjoy one hour of music dedicated to the world of narcotics, for better or worse…and watch the story unfold!” – J-Zone

The Portable Anorak – Mr. Thing

July 23, 2008 · 3 Comments

UK turntablist extraordinaire Mr. Thing recently hit me off with the latest in his series of “Anorak” break-spotting mixes which, in his own words, contains “no bootlegs, compilations or dodgy MP3s of records I don’t own to make it look better.”

So after downloading it here you can rest assured knowing everything you’re listening to has come straight from the dusty grooves of some good ol’ vintage vinyl hunted down by Thing himself. Enjoy!

The DrumLove EP – Dutchmassive

July 15, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Florida-based emcee / producer Dutchmassive comes correct with some online freeness in the form of “The DrumLove EP”.

Download it here and peep what his label Domination Recordings had to say about the release below:

“After a decade of releasing music, Dutchmassive has spent the last 6 months planning a new form of attack (free digital downloading). After releasing several 12 inches in the late nineties and new millenium and his first solo album “Junk Planet” in 2004 on CD & Double Vinyl, Dutchmassive was asked by close friend, and Rawkus A&R, Slopfunkdust to participate in the RAWKUS 50 project, in which fifty of today’s leading independent hip-hop artists would each release a digital album on Rawkus Records. Dutch, having a few projects in the works, gave Rawkus “Crush Your System” which featured the lead single “Better Man” (feat. Median & Von Pea and produced by IllMind). The album will be released on CD in Fall|Winter of 2008 on Domination Recordings and will feature five bonus tracks not on the original Rawkus release.
To hold his fans over and in an effort to reach an entire new audience, Dutch has decided to put together a small instrumental project around twenty-five minutes long setting the tone and mood of his upcoming projects. Futuristic, vintage, jazzy, mellow, boom bap, dusty yet so clean, basically just really good music. So get ready for Crush Your System / Music 2 Sleep To / Quit Work Make Music & The NEXT Final Fantasy. Not only does Dutch have four full length albums ready to unleash, but one of them is a double CD, and another one will be released with a themed mixtape. In closing, Dutch hopes to spread “The DrumLove EP” to every Music, Fashion, Sneaker, Toy, Entertainment blog humanly possible. Coming soon will be another free digital download EP of fresh new songs with vocals.”

DJ Soul: “Back in 2005, while I was spinnin The CFDA Awards after-party at Bungalow 8, someone from Bad Boy approached me and told me that Diddy wanted a mixtape of what I was spinnin that night. I found it kind of weird because I had played his CFDA Awards after-party a year earlier at Marquee and got a bad review (I think it was because I was wearing a Ralph Lauren Polo T-Shirt). Anyhow, a few weeks later I got a call from Bad Boy requesting for the mix again cuz Diddy was in St Tropez and wanted something to listen to. Later that night I linked up with El Saeso at La Esquina and we ran over the Williamsburg Bridge into Brooklyn to the Manhattan Bridge and back into the city. This was my first case of catching a runner’s high and I couldn’t go to sleep. What I did instead was record this. Enjoy…”

Design Of A Decade Vol. 1 – Skillz

May 14, 2008 · Leave a Comment

New mixtape featuring your favourite rapper’s favourite ghostwriter doing his thing over a strong selection of 90s instrumentals – download here and read what Skillz himself had to say about the project below.

“Now I don’t do that many mixtapes, I think I may have like 5 or 6 to my credit. Maybe because I just dont really get inspired to spit over whats hot right now and leak it to the world. I feel like doing something special when I do something, something that will stand out from what else is being at the moment. Picture me rapping over Lollipop right now?? LOL, aint happening homie! So I came up with this idea to do a mixtape series on decades of music. I had to start with the 90’s cuz that music influenced me the most. And when I started pulling songs it was a zillion, I couldn’t decide on which ones that I wanted to do. So these songs are me paying respect to the cats who inspired me. I still get in the car and pick a week where I just listen to one artist all week whenever Im in the car so I can remember how I felt when I first heard those songs. Like last week I listened to Eric B & Rakim all week long, every song, every album. It helps to inspire me ya know? I can’t get inspired by what I hear on the radio. I titled the songs by their initials so you wont know what I did over until to hear the actual song, so check it out, ride with it (it plays perfect in a ipod) vibe to it and hopefully I can make you feel the way I felt while making it. Shout to Cannon & J. Period for making it with me…look out for future volumes cuz I can do these joints all day long!! LOL!”
